We recently updated our Thread Mastery Booklet to make it even more useful for quilters and sewists. This new edition addresses the most common questions we receive, from selecting the right thread to understanding cross and stack wound threads, and how to properly adjust top tension on a sewing machine. This guide provides clear, practical advice for achieving better results. It's an essential reference for all.
Our Thread Mastery booklet highlights many of YLI's threads; however, the information from this guide is not limited to our products but is universal with its educational principles. Suppose you don't know where to start with your thread selection but have a project in mind, such as hand quilting, machine quilting, longarm quilting, applique, English Paper Piecing, embroidery, etc. In that case, we invite you to select your thread based on the traits below. You will find a thread for each application and technique listed above and perhaps be inspired to try something new. You can also browse our threads by fiber type, learning more about our cotton quilting threads, polyester quilting threads, and specialty threads like Silk #100 and Invisible Threads (monofilament threads).

Why Does Thread Education Matter?
At YLI Threads, we know great results start with the right fabric, needles, threads and a little guidance. That’s why we make more than premium quilting threads; we also share practical, easy-to-understand education to help you solve common issues, improve your technique, and enjoy your time at the machine even more.
If you’re looking for threads that motivate you to quilt and sew and tips that actually make a difference, we’re here to help. Sign up for our email newsletter in the footer below to receive expert advice, project ideas, and product updates tailored to you.
